Charming Chrysalises
The Charming Chrysalises, established in 2012 at Mt.
Zion Primary, is a mentoring program for 2nd
grade girls. The Chrysalis represents the caterpillar’s process of
growth and differentiation that it experiences
within, before emerging into a butterfly. Likewise, girls between the
ages of 7 and 9 experience complex physical and cognitive growth,
development, and self-discovery. Comparably,
our girls are also, in fact, emerging into beautiful butterflies. Thus, the Charming Chrysalises mentoring program seeks to help foster
the metamorphosis of our 2nd
grade female students. As participants in our mentoring program, the
girls learn about self-esteem, hygiene, etiquette,
social skills, cultural appreciation, school engagement, leadership, and
college and career readiness. In addition, girls participate in book
club discussions, community service projects, and take part in many
other wonderful experiences.
